Job description

To champion a culture of compliance throughout the firm to ensure everyone complies with our external regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures. 

 

The Compliance & Risk role takes on the functions as the Money Laundering Reporting Office (MLRO) and Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the Company

The MLRO must consider/investigate the internal reports of money laundering and terrorist financing and will decide if a disclosure should be made to the Financial Intelligent Unit (FIU), or if consent should be sought from FIU to proceed with a prohibited act.

As the DPO, the role requires the individual to report and engage with the Data Protection Commission (DPC) in the event of a data breach or for ad hoc queries.

Additional requirements of the MLRO & DPO are:

  • Oversight of the Company’s compliance with the CBI’s and DPC’s rules on systems and controls for money laundering, terrorist financing and data protection
  • Providing regular training to staff as to their obligations surrounding money laundering, terrorist financing, data protection, treating customers fairly, insider trading and whistleblowing
  • Reporting at least annually to the Board on the effectiveness of existing systems and controls
  • Seek new opportunities through and staying abreast of emerging or updated laws, regulations and requirements

Main Activities:

·         Being the primary relationship contact for the Central Bank of Ireland and any other appropriate regulatory bodies.

·         Perform risk assessments to understand the level, significance and scope of risk in the firm’s risk and compliance procedures.

·         Review and define a risk and compliance framework for the firm, including best practice guidance.

·         Advise the Exec team in relation to the company’s risk and compliance systems, propose and implement improvements to manage risk.

·         Manage the anti-money laundering policies and procedures and ensure the firm is compliant.

·         Maintain a centralised reporting system to capture and record any breaches in compliance.

·         Provide guidance and recommendations on corrective actions or risk mitigation of potential issues in policies, systems and employee or partner conduct.

·         Responsibility for updating and maintaining all policies on risk and compliance.

·         Ensure risk and compliance training is delivered effectively as required.

·         Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of appropriate regulations and internal policies and procedures, including money laundering regulations, General Data Protection Regulations, CBI Handbook, firm standards of client service, anti-bribery and corruption, conflicts of interest, client due diligence etc.

·         Comply and uphold the firm’s policies and procedures, such as health and safety, IT, security, email and anti-virus policies and equality and fair treatment.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

 

·         Experience of working in a regulated environment within the financial services sector.

·         Knowledge of data protection legislation and AML procedures.

·         Judgement to balance commercial and compliance risks to achieve positive outcomes.

·         Ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion and tact.

·         Maintains the highest professional standards to ensure the firm is not in a position of risk.

·         Ability to build supportive relationships with everyone across the firm.

·         Excellent communication and leadership skills with an ability to influence at all levels.

·         Excellent organisational skills.

·         Works collaboratively both internally and externally.

 

This role will initially involve travel to London to engage with the wider FairFX Group.

 

 

 

Requirements
